Presiding Officer, Elin Jones has agreed to recall the National Assembly for Wales on Thursday, 5 September. The agenda will be released in due course but a single motion to be debated in plenary is expected to be the only item of business.

Any motion passed will not be binding on the UK Government.

The recall was requested by First Minister, Mark Drakeford to discuss Prime Minister, Boris Johnson’s decision to prorogue the UK Parliament ahead of a Queen’s speech and wider Brexit developments.

It is the third time in its history that the Assembly has been recalled. Most recently, AMs returned early from recess to discuss the steel crisis in 2016.

In related news, Mark Drakeford also announced a review of “the future of the UK”, specifically how political institutions interact. Former Minister Alun Davie shas been tasked with conducting the review. A report is expected by Easter 2020.
