Refugee Week
Arts, cultural and educational events will take place in Wales this week to mark Refugee Week. This nationwide initiative aims to increase awareness of the contribution refugees make to the UK, as well as encourage greater understanding of the refugee experience.
Clean Air
The Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, will make a statement to AMs on clean air on Tuesday. Ms Griffiths said earlier this month that the Welsh Government wants to exceed the target provided by the Committee on Climate Change of reducing emissions by 95% by 2050, stating instead its aims to reach net zero.
Brexit Party Debate
The Brexit Party leads its first Plenary debate this Wednesday, urging the National Assembly for Wales to reject the extension of the UK’s EU membership beyond October 31st, even if no deal has been reached. The Brexit Party wishes for the National Assembly for Wales to note that leaving the EU without a deal could save the UK taxpayer £39m by reducing the costs of ‘food, clothing and footwear significantly’.
The Voice of a Child
The Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Sally Holland, chairs a discussion on Wednesday regarding the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child alongside representatives from Unicef, the Children’s Commissioner Youth Advisory Panel and the Welsh Youth Parliament. This talk will explore the role young people play in democracy and how their views are being listened to in Wales, in accordance with Article 12 of the Convention.
Wales’ legal system
On Thursday, the Secretary of State for Wales Alun Cairns will discuss Wales’ unique position within a flourishing and globally renowned legal system in a keynote speech at Cardiff University.
